zac clark: news

great news all around! - March 4, 2008

today, despite what sounds like buckets of rain being dumped from the heavens on the roof of the studio and a forecast of a slightly more frozen version of the same on my drive back to burlington tomorrow night, good things abound at strangeways recording.

1. we settled on a final mix of a new jam either called "enough" or "i am in love with you, tonight" or "you're ok i guess" (that one is probably not really in contention) or as itunes has decided to call it, "My Interior" by John Tallhat. i have never heard mr. tallhat's work, but that is a brilliant song title which can only belong to a song devoted to the description of some sort of invasive doctor's exam best not mentioned at the dinner table. my version of the song is much less about that and more about those times when you just need to jump out the window and superman off of the fire escape when you wake up in an apartment that is not your own. it's a lot of fun (the song, not the aforementioned act, which, on the contrary, can be very painful) and includes an incredible display of vulgar hooting and hollering provided by a raucous assortment of family and friends sometime around christmas last year.

2. in a somewhat irrelevant news piece, my cell phone, which has been the bane of my existence for the past year or so due to its penchant for running out of batteries 2 minutes after being unplugged from the wall, may be fixed. the key appears to have been the high velocity with which i hurled it to the ground last night. the battery has remained full since i put its various pieces back together! great news!

3. casey prestwood is the man and has contributed some incredible pedal steel to the song we're mixing right now, which is called "tiger mending" (i think...)

things are sounding great and we seem to be getting into the final stretch of getting this record done, which will put us that much closer to getting it in your hands.

but first, i'll be playing almost all of it at higher ground on march 26th, 3 weeks from tomorrow. tickets are onsale at www.highergroundmusic.com and can also be purchased through me if you want to get in touch.. they're 2 dollars cheaper in advance and this should be a great time, so make sure you get in touch and come out to hang out with me, my good friend syd and his amazing band, and james kinne.

hope all is well, and hopefully i'll see you all soon

robots - January 10, 2008

today i was shredding on my melodica here in the studio when i was interrupted by jer coons, who showed up unannounced and rudely dumped his roughly 73 guitars down on the studio floor. as penance for his completely inappropriate interruption of my shredding, i have enslaved jer and he is currently playing one of his 73 guitars on a few of the new songs.

earlier today we also recorded what will surely go down in history as the best mellotron brass solo ever recorded (and subsequently buried in the mix so that you have to scratch your head and wonder where it is.)

i think i may have also named the record as well.. more on that later.

if the girls keep dancing, everybody's happy. if the girls don't dance, nobody's happy. - January 8, 2008

mike is mixing "devil on your shoulder" as we speak. it sounds incredible, and i'm just sitting here on the big red strangeways recording couch taking it all in.

it's ridiculous to think about the last time i heard a potentially finished version of a new song, and the more i think about it, the more i realize perhaps it's never really happened quite to this degree. this record has been on its way into the world since as early as january 2006, and the past year has been almost entirely devoted to events that will, ultimately, be responsible for bringing it to life.

there is a great deal of love in each of these songs, and a great deal of care has been taken to make sure that they come out right. not "right" as in "sterile, surgical perfection", but that kind of "right" that knocks the wind out of you when you first hear it or feel it. the kind of "right" that is an indicator that, somehow, every step i took writing this record, and every step mike and i (and the countless other friends who've been a part of the process) have taken recording it, was the right step we needed to take.

finally, i am hearing exactly what i intended to play, in exactly the way it was meant to be heard. i can't wait to share it with you.

january 5th, 5:09 pm, baltimore, md - January 5, 2008

today my partner in crime mike poorman and i spent a few hours at the lair of brian mcternan, salad days, where we joined forces with my amazingly talented friend greg watkins for a string arrangement on one of the new songs. greg assembled a crew of phenomenal players who absolutely nailed it, and brought this song to a whole new level.

we'll be back in providence for the next week adding more herbs and spices to the sauce that is the new record.. our to-do list is pretty much as follows:

- vocals for 3 songs
- make weird noises with reel-to-reel tape machine
- mix
- eat at whole foods 5-6 times in one week

we should have things worth hearing sooner than later, but until that moment comes, i've put up a couple of old jams from the 'ellipsis' sessions on myspace.com/zacclark for you guys to check out. i always thought we'd end up recording them for the new record, but as far as i can tell, there's no place where they'd fit.. so hopefully you enjoy them in their relatively stripped down state on the myspace. the talents of dan ramsey are displayed on 'nocturne', so listen for that.

hope you are all well..

new. - January 3, 2008

it is a new year. i have a couple of new shirts and a great bundle of new socks. i have a nearly finished new record. i have a new fear of never finishing my nearly finished new record.

maybe things will go incredibly well and we will finish the record. maybe not.

maybe you'll stick with me until i can get this new music to you. maybe not.

i have hopes and fears for this new year. coats and sweaters. socks and shirts.

no assumptions.

we'll see.

the leader of the band is tired... - December 16, 2007

dan fogelberg passed away this morning after a three year battle with cancer, and i've never been more shaken by the death of someone i didn't really know.

literally the first records i ever heard were dan fogelberg records and the first show i ever went to was a dan fogelberg show. i remained almost hilariously out of touch with current musical trends of the time until i was at least 12 because i listened almost exclusively to his music, most of which predated my birth by at least a few years.

since my music ceased to exist as a blatant fogelberg ripoff (coinciding most likely with the year i also noticed there were other people making music), his influence has been obvious, at least to me, in almost everything i've done. whether it's noticeable or not, without him, something would be missing from the music i play, or i might not have even been inclined to play it at all.

in december of 2005, while mike poorman and i put the finishing touches on 'ellipsis', mike insisted we take some time to record a cover of 'same old lang syne', which i had been playing live that winter in a sort of subtle holiday gesture. i did a quick recording of it, not knowing what i would ever do with it, and put it away with the rest of the songs we passed over in making the tracklisting for the ep.

in the two years since, i've talked seriously about trying to get in touch with dan, for no real premeditated reason at all. maybe to tell him how his music has shaped my songwriting, perhaps to be one of the many who have told him how it's been with me throughout my life. definitely in the hopes that i could coax him into co-writing something with me. i thought i had years to formulate some coherent expression of gratitude that i could pass along to him, but we never really have the time we think we have.

i guess in the end, i wanted to write this to say thank you to a man who influenced my songwriting and my life so profoundly, to the point where his death feels like the passing of a family member. i doubt i'm the only one who dan fogelberg mentored without ever meeting.

a toast to the all that music has brought me, and a hope that i can pass it on to as many as possible.

'joy at the start, fear in the journey; joy in the coming home. a part of the heart gets lost in the learning somewhere along the road.'

-zc

the cover of 'same old lang syne is up for streaming now on the myspace and should be up until the new year.

i wanted to be with you alone, and talk about the weather. - December 15, 2007

..it would probably not surprise anyone to hear that i am writing this from my car, still on interstate 95 in providence, ri, having started my journey home 43 hours ago, at 5 pm on thursday. luckily this is not the case, but it could very well have been, along with other possibilities witnessed along my 20 mile (and 3 hour) drive to my cousin's after cutting our day short the other day:

- car abandoned on highway. in middle lane.

- urinating next to running car. in middle lane.

- upon realization of importance of snow tires, crashing into one of approximately 100,000 other cars without snow tires.

it goes without saying that something went horribly wrong in providence on thursday. we knew we were in for a lovely evening when the mere process of exiting the parking lot of strangeways recording took an unprecedented 20 minutes. but (most of us, i presume) made it home (or parked our cars in the middle lane of the highway or across an off-ramp, apparently) and that's what counts.

i love rhode island, but i have to be honest, i was embarrassed to be a part of the human race on thursday on that drive home..

luckily there is more going on than mediocre snowfall and the ensuing chaos among unprepared travelers. this week found us trying again to track piano with the aid of our second untunable piano. a process akin to shaving with a butter knife, the more we tried, the more obvious it became that we were getting nothing done.

so we did the next best thing: made a trip to the store and bought every percussion instrument ever. i spent the week shaking things, banging on things, tracking extra drum tracks for songs, finishing vocals, and doing basically everything i could do to make sure we could somehow stay on track without making this an all drum and bass record. i even played accordion on one of the new songs, which. more than anything, i just wish i had a picture of, because i have a feeling i looked like steve urkel.

despite the setback of the whole 'being screwed out of a piano to track with during the sessions for a piano-based record' ordeal, i've never been more excited about this project than i am now. me and mike are pretty much giving any little idea a chance at this point, trying new things and getting some really cool sounds, and i think that will show through when the time comes for you all to hear what we've been working on.

something is finally stirring.

happy holidays
zc

greetings. - December 11, 2007

my voice is shredded from the bridge of this last song.

all the pianos are out of tune.

we are hovering somewhere close to halfway through.

will catch my breath and elaborate soon.

spot on, bevin! - November 26, 2007

i just realized that the schedule i have looming before me will probably prevent me from huge amounts of internet updating, so i wanted to say hey to everyone before i re-enter strangeways recording with mike poorman to (hopefully) finish tracking the new record. as of now we have drums done for seven songs, bass done for four of those, and vocals and strange keyboard noises done for a handful of the aforementioned "jams". things should start coming together starting december 2nd, however, when we start tracking piano, start work on a few more songs and let the record as a whole start to take shape.

my good friend jer coons and i will be at higher ground in south burlington this thursday night, the 29th, so if you're around make sure you come hang out. this will be the last area show of the year for both of us, and will be my last show before this record is completely ready to be unleashed.

before the higher ground show, however, jer and i will be getting together for a top-secret christmas gift that we hopefully will be able to bestow upon you all very soon, possibly with a couple other good friends involved. all i can say is that if it turns out as hilarious as it seems like it might, it will be the crowning achievement of my career (or its very undoing.) either way i can't wait.

hope to see a bunch of you at the show on thursday night...

you can't just bury your love... - November 11, 2007

i can't remember the last time i've gotten a song stuck in my head quicker than this morning, when i stumbled upon my friend justin levinson's new track "bury your love." it may have been when i first heard "got your money" by ol' dirty bastard, but that's beside the point. this song is one of the best i've heard in a long time, and you'd be doing yourself quite a disservice if you didn't check it out.. myspace.com/justinlevinson. do it.

this week was another productive one at mike poorman's lair, strangeways recording.. not only did i continue to watch my relationship with mike's puppy, sona, really take off (she no longer pees on the floor in terror when i walk into the room), we had the incredibly talented jim keaney in once again to finish up some guitar parts, and got another batch of three songs started with dan duggins and joe ballaro. the songs are currently known as "bones," "tiger mending" and "santa monica", and it's going to be cool to see how they take shape with dan and joe involved.

i'm back home now hopefully demoing a few more songs, and searching for a piano to use on this record. we've seen a couple so far, one that apparently was priced at 600 dollars due to its "potential to look really nice" despite a painful lack of attributes such as "sound quality" and "working keys," and one that looked like it was owned by elton john (which could have been the one, since you'd never be able to see the fact that it's painted white with flowers by listening to the record, but it has apparently not been tuned in eleven years.)

if you live in vermont or new hampshire, i'll be at the sad cafe in plaistow, nh on saturday the 24th with the amazing fly upright kite, and higher ground in south burlington, vt with jer coons, barefoot truth and pete francis of dispatch on the 29th before i head back into the studio.

hope you're all well, and hopefully i'll see some of you at the upcoming shows!

strangeways recording: a tale of high-speed winds, guest appearances and unrequited love. - November 3, 2007

ahoy.

after a long period of gross neglect, i have finally decided the news section needs some attention, and you, the faithful readers, deserve to hear what is happening. in the immediate sense, there are winds whipping through providence, ri at an alleged 70-75 miles per hour, which has me praying for the structural integrity of strangeways recording. in the general scheme of things, slightly less dangerous (but no less exciting) things are abound. (edit: i think a dumpster just fell over in the alley outside the studio. (further note: i am afraid to confirm or deny this fact as if it has fallen over, it most likely has plummeted onto my car.))

we finally seem to be getting into the swing of things with "the new record." world reknowned multi-platinum record producer mike poorman and i (multi-platinum recording artist zac clark) have truly begun our journey toward what i hope will be a fun album to record and listen to.

not only have i spent the last couple of days trying to win the love and affection of mike's new puppy sona, but we had our good friend asad rahman of boston's fly upright kite stop by the studio. not only is asad much more socially adept than sona, he is also much more talented at guitar, so i abandoned my plans of having the world's first guitar track played by a labrador retriever mix, and asad absolutely killed it on one of the new songs, "jackals."

today, if the winds don't blow him off of one of the northeast's famous highways, jim keaney of the appreciation post will be stopping by to lend a hand on another song, and next week we'll be starting work on the next batch of songs, with my friends dan duggins and joe ballero of hot rod circuit on drums and bass.

things are starting to sound really cool, and i'm psyched to get this record done and have something new for you all to hear.

now if i could only get sona to love me...

zac

hold your head up, you silly girl.. look what you've done. - October 11, 2007

anyone else going to be stuck listening to this new radiohead record for the rest of october? i'm impressed, and intrigued by the way they've put the whole thing out there for everyone to hear. imagine how much more music we might pay for (instead of downloading illegally and thus populating our computers with hilarious viruses.. maybe that was just me in 8th grade) as a society if we had the option to set the price, and if perhaps we had the ability to pay after we had heard the record.

just some thoughts... of course you will have no say in the price of my new album, it is already fixed at 100 euros per track.

kidding. but in real news, i should be back in the studio in the coming weeks to continue work on the aforementioned 100 euro album, and a good friend of mine might be making his way into the studio to play some drums on a few new songs. i think from here on out the record will be a lot more of a collaborative effort; expect to see quite a few interesting characters lending their expertise to the songs.

hope you all are well,
zc

don't get me wrong... - October 5, 2007

...when it's on it's on. but when it's off, it's off, and i can't waste another winter with my fingers crossed. so i'll sin my way to santa monica to beat the frost, cause i'd rather have to pay for what i've found than find out what not looking costs.

can't wait to play you all the new stuff. i'd look for a big show announcement soon...

love

sony: the reason why you can't watch what we're doing in the studio. - August 1, 2007

yo.. just got back from a few days in the studio. we had an 8-piece clapping orchestra in the studio yesterday and got some great stuff for 'jackals.' other than that bit of excitement, i've just been adding bass to the already completed drum tracks and making a studio documentary with this video camera (camcorder, if you will) that i just bought. we have some cool footage of the process so far, and i was psyched to start getting things up online for you all to see, complete with some snippets of the new material in its current state of completion.. however, it was not to be. two of my favorite companies, one box store well-versed in the art of misinformation whose name i will not specifically identify but rhymes with breast guy, and everyone's favorite proprietary format pusher sony, have, in combination, made things incredibly tough as far as the whole "watch the movies you record on anything other than the camcorder you recorded them with" idea goes. without going into any of the technological details (most of which i fail to completely understand), it may take a while to get the footage available for viewing anywhere other than the tiny screen on the camera itself, if at all.

that's enough bad news for now though, hopefully we'll get something worked out and have some studio videos up for you to check out. most of all, i'm just excited to get the new music ready for everyone to hear. make sure if you haven't already grabbed tickets to the august 17th show at higher ground, you do that soon.. i'll be playing a ton of the new stuff, and it'll be great to see you all there for what will be my only big burlington appearance for the rest of the year.

buy the new down to earth approach album, 'come back to you,' if you see it at a store near you.. it's one of the best records i've heard this year. they're out with another great band right now called treaty of paris, and i'd be hard pressed to think of a better group of dudes for everyone to go out and support when they come through your town this month than these two bands.

hope this finds you all well (and that someone out there has some incredible hacking skills and can help in getting studio videos up for you all to see).. take care

zac

you just have to wait.. - July 25, 2007

well well well... it has been an inappropriate length of time
since i last wrote here, and i had to break the silence with a journal entry. unfortunately this is merely an online journal, so unless you or someone in your presence is reading this aloud, i haven't really broken much of anything. except for a lot of grammar and punctuation rules.

i've been taking a bit of a break from playing live lately to work on the new record, and as soon as i decided to do that, i began to take a break from working on the new record as well. for all intents and purposes, i've kind of been taking a break from everything of my own.. i've been trying to get out and see my friends play shows, and i've been able to see some great stuff lately.

that being said, i've started drums for the new record, and the first batch of songs are waiting patiently to be completed. ink, dead weight, jackals, and devil on your shoulder are among the first to be attacked as i start the recording process. i'll be back in providence with mike poorman soon for some more work on those songs, and this time i'll be wielding a video camera to document our progress so i can show you guys what we're up to.

also, get ready for the higher ground show in august with myself, jer coons, the milkman's union and myspace records artist kate voegele.. it should be a great time, and the tickets are only 7 dollars in advance at the higher ground box office or here: http://higherground.frontgatetickets.com/choose.php?lid=12839

finally, one of my most helpful friends, carly, has started a street team for what most major news outlets are now calling "the zac clark movement." carly has all the details on what you'll be doing as part of the street team, so get in touch with her at the official street team myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/zacclarkreps . there's an exclusive song up on the site just for street team members, and there will be more stuff to come, so definitely check that out.

be on the lookout for some video updates soon and hopefully some more frequent updates here on the site as well..

take care,
zac

i should not be allowed to post news after 2am. - May 22, 2007

hello, internet surfers. it is 2:30 in the morning, and i just got back to vermont from providence, ri, where we started tracking the new album a few days ago. recording thus far has consisted of nothing but an incessant bashing of the drums, the constant perusal of strangeways recording's new collection of literature (the new album may or may not be a concept album based on the thrilling tale "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me!" by Paula Begoun) and the occasional foray into providence's fine southwestern cuisine. it should be noted that while myself and daryl "darnell rabinius" rabidoux are staunch supporters of the "gordito" size burritos, world-renowned producer mike "disc warrior" poorman was spotted on several occasions ordering a "baby" burrito. the incredible brownies at a local pizza shop, which we picked up on our way back to the studio parked in the no parking zone with four-ways on, also served as inspiration for what will most likely become a hot new rap song: "throw your flashers on." ja rule: have your people call my people.

in all seriousness though, some of the new songs are starting to take shape, and i'm already excited for you guys to hear them. expect some out of the ordinary occurrences on this record.. if all goes according to plan, there will be a few top secret guest appearances, some strings and horns, and guitar solos. alright, probably not more than one guitar solo, but you never know. we will be recording in a variety of different locales, so beware: i may be in your neck of the woods.

i might have some interesting news in the very near future, so keep on the lookout.. and also keep an eye out for the new site, which should hopefully be up soon.

throw your flashers on,
zc

unless we kick out our feet... - May 2, 2007

thanks to all those who came out to the syd cd release shows this past week, and a huge thanks to syd for taking me out for the week.. if any of you get a chance to see syd in the near future, make sure you make it happen. you won't be disappointed. i also got a chance to play with philadelphia's matt duke for a couple of nights, which was great. these guys are both out of control, and hopefully you'll be seeing some more zac clark/syd/matt duke shows in the future. check those guys both out at www.myspace.com/syd and www.myspace.com/mattduke.

also, check out an interview with yours truly over at www.anti-mag.com/zacclark.htm, and spread the link to your friends. jo ann always has great stuff on the anti-mag site, so keep checking in..

finally, i just received an email from my aunt and uncle in california, who, along with (allegedly) all three of my cousins, are running a 5k for brain cancer research.. check out this link if you are up for donating to a great cause, in honor of a great woman. http://www.firstgiving.com/InMemoryOfPattiClark

tomorrow i embark on a journey to the new location of strangeways recording, or as i like to call it: strangeways v2.0, for a little painting.. soon enough i should be back in to get some of the new songs recorded. hope you're all doing well.. i'll keep you guys updated with anything new that comes up in the near future.

we are not swans. - April 24, 2007

i have to confess right off the bat how embarassing it was to log onto the website for the first time in a few weeks and see how hilariously few and far between the updates have been this year. to spare myself from similar moments in the future, i'm going to try to start posting things as they happen instead of awkwardly recounting them a month later.

i spent a few days in boston last week for the first ever verge music conference, put on by the good folks of nemo and naca, as well as kevin lyman. my car spent 75 dollars over the course of my stay as it sat in its (unbelievably prime) spot near the park plaza hotel, but i think it was worth it. among the highlights of the conference:

- being robbed of the guest tambourine player spot in fred's (www.myspace.com/fredtheband) tambourine competition, in which, after being tagged as a "professional tambourine player (shaker? jangler?)", i received a 10 point handicap and proceeded to lose more points for not being female.*

- jumping onstage during fred's set anyway and playing cowbell with a metal jug.

- the eclectic collective. so out of control. see them if they are going to be anywhere near you in the near future.. and buy their new record. apparently i clapped on it.

- the commotion caused when, along with two members of pittsburgh's formula 412 (www.myspace.com/formula412), i inadvertently started a freestyle rap battle at the grand piano in the lobby of the park plaza.

- tempe, arizona's the format.. the new song they played, "swans," is great, and the record they have out now, "dog problems," is one of my favorites of 2006.

sunday found me further north, in keene, new hampshire, to see some friends of mine, jay, bobby, jon and andrew of jack's mannequin (www.myspace.com/jacksmannequin) play their last non-festival show for a while. anyone who somehow hasn't heard the latest from andrew should make that happen as soon as possible. dudes absolutely kill it every night onstage too, so don't let them pass you by next time they're out. and try not to almost get thrown out 30 seconds into the first song like jim wirt and i did.** without getting into too many specifics, if you are holding a red solo cup at an event on a college campus with what appears to be the entire town's police force stationed around you, you will soon be having a conversation with seven or eight of them.

finally i'm back in burlington ready to kick off a little mini-tour for the release of the new syd (www.myspace.com/syd) record.. starting tomorrow at nectar's with a free show (5 dollars if you're 18+) at 8pm. the dates are as follows, if you're around any of these places it would be great to see you this week.

wednesday, april 25th - 8:00pm - nectar's - burlington, vt (18+ $5/ 21+ free)

thursday, april 26th - 8:00pm - paradise lounge - boston, ma (18+ $10)

friday, april 27th - 8:00pm - knitting factory - new york, ny (all ages $10)

saturday, april 28th - 7:00pm - world cafe live - philadelphia, pa (all ages $6)

i think that pretty much covers everything.. hopefully i'll see a bunch of you this week

-zc

*if video of this surfaces online, my life may be ruined.

** it should be noted that jim is the man.

this one goes out to the one i love. - April 2, 2007

i just watched a man stop a ceiling fan with his tongue on network television, and decided now was as good of a time as any to update you all on what's currently going on.

first and foremost, i just received a glorious email from randall jenkins with a picture of the layout for the new website.. i can't wait for you all to see it.

second, some new tourdates have surfaced over at the myspace page. one of these dates is a showcase at the verge conference in boston on the 19th; if you go to college in the northeast and want to see me play at your school, bug your events planners and get them to check into coming to the verge. a bunch of great bands, including my friends the eclectic collective, and straylight run, will be there, as well as some very cool guest speakers. also, right after that, i'll be doing a little run of dates with syd in honor of his new album's release.. if you haven't heard syd or haven't heard his new single, check it out at www.myspace.com/syd.

also, i may be paying the new providence, ri location of strangeways recording a visit soon to get some brand new songs recorded, so be on the lookout for those to surface sometime in the (near?) future.

check out those dates on myspace, hopefully i'll see a bunch of you this month..

do:
listen to the sketches, buy the re-release of paulson's "all at once," and pick up a copy of the new hot rod circuit record.

don't:
challenge my brother ethan to a game of nintendo wii bowling.

talk to you all soon
..

the recap. - March 6, 2007

after about two weeks of traveling alone up and down the east coast, i finally have a minute to catch my breath. unfortunately, due to some sort of unidentified cold i caught somewhere between virginia and new york city, this is proving to be easier said than done. i'm extremely sad to have missed out on what most likely was an incredible final installment of the jenny owen youngs trilogy at paradise tonight.. it was a pleasure to share the stage with jenny for the past two weeks; hopefully we'll be able to play some more shows together in the future.

for those of you who wondered what happened after i seemed to vanish from the internet after the third day of the tour, here are some key points in the journey:

- harrisonburg, virginia is out of control. everyone there was incredibly accommodating, and i sampled some of the finest dining hall food i have ever encountered. after a failed attempt to up my standards of water jug carrying (a 2.5 gallon wal-mart dispenser proved to be incredibly unwieldly) i got the chance to share the stage with eddie cain irvin (www.eddiecain.com) and then proceeded to watch as a "wintry mix" dumped down from the sky on the entire town.

- on my way back to boston for week two of the paradise lounge with jenny owen youngs, i made my way through dc, where i got a chance to check out a couple of great bands, jack's mannequin and the audition. joe of the audition and i, after blasting every jay-z song ever from an ipod, had a zac clark dinosaur sticker inspired conversation about which jurassic park movie was the best.* a dance party ensued, and whether you agree or not, i refuse to believe that any dance party can be complete without "don't stop till you get enough" by michael jackson. this dance party was complete. trust me.

- boston. the beautiful, talented jenny owen youngs. not much more can be said. if you haven't heard jenny, this must be remedied immediately.

- a trip to new york city to see some friends found me at a packed hammerstein ballroom to see the audition and jack's mannequin yet again. if you've never seen either of these bands live, make it happen. thanks to jon, jay, andrew, bobby and casper, as well as joe, tim and the audition guys for letting me come out and check out the shows, and double d duggins for ensuring that i didn't have to make the last metro north train back to connecticut at 2 in the morning.

- finally, taunton, massachusetts and i shared the ultimate bonding experience as we all sang not only "amelia" (or more accurately, everyone else sang and i listened) but also everybody's favorite songs about the heart, "tearin' up my heart" and "quit playin' games with my heart."** the evening was capped off by the fact that i finally got to share the stage with one of my favorite bands, and some good friends of mine, the appreciation post (www.myspace.com/theappreciationpost). their new ep is on sale right now, and it's ridiculous, so make sure you grab a copy as soon as humanly possible.

as i prepare for some more dates and try to nurse myself back to health, i have to thank everyone who helped out along the way these past couple weeks; hopefully i'll see you all again soon. keep in touch and be on the lookout for more dates!

*i still can't give an honest answer before i review the evidence, which i will probably do while i rest and attempt to rid myself of the plague before heading out for some more dates.

**i sincerely apologize to "total eclipse of the heart," "hungry heart," "i'll never break your heart," "listen to your heart," and "my heart will go on."
